Dubrovnik Winter Festival in Cultural Institutions – Weekly Review

In addition to numerous music and entertainment events, the Dubrovnik Winter Festival features a variety of cultural programmes. This week, various events are organised in Dubrovnik's cultural institutions. On 10 December, the exhibition entitled Domi Sum by Jadranka Sulić Šprem, Ana Kuzman and Frano Čizmić opened at the Dubrovnik Natural Science Museum.

On 11 December, on the eve of St Lucy's Day, the Linđo Folklore Ensemble gave its traditional charity concert Gift from the Heart for the Dubrovnik-Neretva County's Blind People Association at the Marin Držić Theatre beginning at 8.00 pm.

A preview of the new episode of Star Wars, a part of which was filmed in Dubrovnik, was shown on Wednesday, 13 December at 7.00 pm, at the cinemas Sloboda (3D) and Visia (2D).

December events also include international exhibition of Ahmet Ertuğ photographs, which will open at the Dubrovnik Museum of Modern Art on 14 December at 7.00 pm. One of the most renowned contemporary photographers, Ahmet Ertuğ will offer a new perspective of the Old City with interiors and exteriors of Dubrovnik's well-known buildings, hidden parts of the Old City, and photographs from his cycle featuring interiors of the world's most famous buildings.

The Dubrovnik Libraries will organise a lecture by Jelena Obradović Mojaš entitled Best Wishes to You on This Glorious and Special Day!, Dubrovnik's caroling calendar, at the Scientific Library, on Thursday,  14 December at 7.00 pm.

That same evening, in collaboration with the Dubrovnik Rotary Club, the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra will give a charity concert at the Cathedral beginning at 8.00 pm. The orchestra will be conducted by Marc Tardue, featuring clarinetist Marija Pavlović, soprano Sara Žuvela, Klapa Kaše and Klapa Subrenum.

 

Highlights of the year in which we mark the 450th anniversary of the death of Marin Držić include two events dedicated to him scheduled for Friday, 15 December. A comic strip The Story of Stanac by Dubravko Kastrapeli will be presented at the Marin Držić House at 6.00 pm. by the Marin Držić House Director Nikša Matić, and art historian Anita Ruso. On the same day, the Marin Držić Theatre will show a modern premiere of Pjerin, directed by Ozren Prohić. The premiere is scheduled for Friday and the first repeat performance for Saturday, both beginning at 8.00 pm.
